Rather than read through this exhaustive list, I strongly encourage
you to contact me to discuss your concerns. I believe having a
dialogue with neighbors is more important than throwing out cliché
issue papers.
Stop Wasteful Spending
Government’s irresponsible spending must stop. Under the leadership of
Martin O'Malley, Maryland's budget has increased by nearly four billion
dollars. The amount of money that Maryland spends does not equal the
money it raises via taxes.
This past year, O’Malley used Obama stimulus money to balance the budget.
Without the stimulus money, Maryland would have been insolvent. Instead of
fixing the spending problem, O’Malley and the majority of the General
Assembly decided to pass the buck. This is not sound fiscal policies.
Unfortunately, the current incumbents condoned O’Malley’s irresponsible
spending by voting for the budget which incorporated Obama stimulus money.
I promise that I will not vote for any fiscally irresponsible budget. In addition, I
will not vote for any irresponsible spending programs that bloat the budget.
Taxes
Maryland is one of the highest taxes states in the nation. It has been proven
time and time again that higher taxes stifle economic growth and place an
undue burden on working families.
I will not vote for any more taxes increases. I will fight to lower the business and
personal income taxes to reasonable levels that encourage businesses to
move back to Maryland and thrive.
Pro-Business
As a small business owner, I am an adamant supporter of helping small
businesses succeed and promise that I will stand with the business community
to fight legislation will stunt the growth of businesses.
Furthermore, I will fight legislation that places any undue burden on business.
Harsher Penalties for Child Sex Offenders
There is no excuse for an adult to abuse a child. First time sex offenders
convicted of second degree rape and second degree sex offense should be
incarcerated for a mandatory minimum of twenty-five years. Studies have
shown that there is an extremely high recidivism rate for sex offenders. We
need to protect the people who cannot protect themselves. Putting these
criminals behind bars is one-step in the right direction.
Immigration
We must have reasonable controls on illegal immigration. Immigrants who
come into the county unchecked do not go through the same criminal and
health background checks. Without these checks enforced, our country has
suffered from increased crime, including the proliferation of gangs, and various
diseases that we have previously controlled.
Education
Education must be one of our main priorities. We have schools in our district
where half of the students fall below a ”C” average. That is unacceptable and
dangerous for our future. We can do better.
We must continue to think outside the box when it comes to educating our
children. As a board member of a charter school, I support alternative models
for education that will help children excel.
I also believe that the education curriculum should include practical classes. I
support a mandatory financial acumen class for graduating seniors.
Health Care
Health care costs are out of control. This is in part due to frivolous lawsuits. I
will work to introduce comprehensive tort reform legislation to cut down on
ridiculous lawsuits.
We must also do something for the health care system we have in Maryland.
Did you know that you pay for health care costs of people who are uninsured
or refuse to pay? That money is prebuilt into your health care bill or hospital
stay. We must reform this practice to make sure that honest, hard-working
people are not covering the costs for others.
I also believe that health care should be portable. Employees should be able
to carry their health insurance with them to another job. This will help to defray
costs.
2nd Amendment
I believe that every law abiding citizen should have the right to carry arms. I
also support greater access to concealed carry permits.
Environment
Theodore Roosevelt has always been one of my heroes. As a strong
conservationist, I respect him for his stance on the environment. He
understood the importance of protecting the environment and preserving the
wildlife. I will work to implement reasonable and responsible environmental
controls in Maryland .
Private Property Rights
I strongly support a private citizen's right to use his or her property. I also
believe in the protection of a property owner's rights. I will support legislation
that will restrict the state and local government from taking your private
property under the eminent domain power.
